In 2009, after having both of my hip replacements revised in a single surgery, I was discharged to a rehabilitative hospital for several weeks before eventually going home. I’m incredibly lucky to have awesome friends and family and I had lots of visitors during this time. The first time my friends Rach and Rob came to visit, Rob walked in, and, without missing a beat, said: “What’s up, Hips?” All these years later, when I texted Rob a ‘Happy Birthday’ he responded with “Aww thanks, Hips!”.
In 2012, when it came time to name my team for the Walk to Cure Arthritis, “Team Hips” was the obvious choice. I registered my team online, established a team fundraising goal of $1,000 and sent out a personal fundraising email to friends and family. Three months later I accepted the “Top Fundraising Family Team” award after Team Hips raised $6,310! Since 2012 Team Hips has raised more than $50,000 on behalf of the Arthritis Foundation, and in the coming year, I’m looking forward to serving as the 2018 National Walk to Cure Arthritis Adult Honoree!
