In 2009, after having both of my hip replacements revised in a single surgery, I was discharged to a rehabilitative hospital for several weeks before eventually going home. I’m incredibly lucky to have awesome friends and family and I had lots of visitors during this time. The first time my friends Rach and Rob came to visit, Rob walked in, and, without missing a beat, said: “What’s up, Hips?” All these years later, when I texted Rob a ‘Happy Birthday’ he responded with “Aww thanks, Hips!”.
In 2012, when it came time to name my team for the Walk to Cure Arthritis, “Team Hips” was the obvious choice. I registered my team online, established a team fundraising goal of $1,000 and sent out a personal fundraising email to friends and family. Three months later I accepted the “Top Fundraising Family Team” award after Team Hips raised $6,310! Since 2012 Team Hips has raised over $40,000 on behalf of the Arthritis Foundation, and in 2016 I was recognized as the 2016 Boston Walk to Cure Arthritis Adult Honoree! Most importantly the members of Team Hips serve as my support system, my cheerleaders and my greatest source of strength.
